ReefLog — Privacy Policy

ReefLog (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a reef and saltwater aquarium manager for Android and iOS. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: ReefLog is a local-first app — your aquarium data stays on your device.

1. Data you create stays on your device

Everything you log in ReefLog is stored locally on your device in the app’s private database and file storage. We do not have a server, you do not create an account, and this data is never transmitted to us or anyone else. This includes:

Tank/aquarium details and water parameter readings
Maintenance tasks, schedules, and reminders
Livestock and equipment records
Photos you attach to records (stored locally; not uploaded)

If you uninstall the app or use your device’s “clear data” function, this information is deleted from your device.

2. Purchases (ReefLog Pro)

ReefLog offers an optional paid upgrade (“ReefLog Pro”) via in-app purchase. Purchases are processed by the app store (Google Play or, on iOS, the App Store). We never see or store your payment details (card numbers, etc.); those are handled entirely by the store.

To unlock and restore Pro across reinstalls, we use RevenueCat, a third-party subscription-management service. When you view plans, purchase, or restore, the app shares with RevenueCat:

a randomly generated, pseudonymous app user ID (not your name or email),
your purchase/subscription transaction info from the store, and
standard device and app information (e.g., device model, OS version, app version, and an IP-derived country) used to operate the service.

We do not send your name, email address, or any of your aquarium data to RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes this data on our behalf to manage entitlements. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy and Google Play’s: https://policies.google.com/privacy

3. Analytics and tracking

The current release does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The app does not collect usage analytics over the network and does not use advertising identifiers.

4. Device permissions

ReefLog may ask for permissions only to provide features you use:

Photos / storage — to attach photos to your livestock/equipment records. Photos stay on your device.
Notifications — to send you local maintenance reminders. These are generated on your device; no reminder content is sent to us.

You can grant or revoke these in your device settings at any time.

5. Children’s privacy

ReefLog is a general-audience hobbyist app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We do not sell your data and do not share it with third parties except as needed to process purchases (the app store and RevenueCat, as described in Section 2).

7. Your choices and data deletion

Local data: delete it anytime by removing records in the app, clearing the app’s data in device settings, or uninstalling the app.
Purchase data held by RevenueCat: because the app user ID is anonymous and not tied to your identity, it cannot be looked up from your name or email. If you want associated purchase data deleted, contact us at the email above and we will make a deletion request to RevenueCat on your behalf.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if we add analytics or other services in the future). Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and, where appropriate, noting the change in the app or store listing.
